I Need More Bass! (((O))) Saturday 05 March, 2011

St-Leo-Spring-Fling-004

It’s been a while since I’ve done gigs and usually it’s a lot of work. Wake up super early to set up a stage and sound system, run monitor for several bands with 40+ inputs to the board and 12 hours later pack up and head home arriving back at home 20 hours later. Today was a little different though.

Stage was set up, and all we had was a DJ. No other bands. Only 2 inputs to the board! Once we set up in 1.5 hours we patched him in, set the levels and chill for a four hour event. I’m actually typing this blog while sitting stage right because I have nothing else to do. The only job I really have this show is make sure he doesn’t overload the subs. So the downside is I have to sit and listen to hiphop for 4 hours right behind the subs. It’s a lot like those cars that pull up next to you at the stop light with their bass cranked, only for 4 hours and probably 10 times louder. Approximately 12,000 watts powering sixteen 18″ subwoofers. It’s a DJ so we needed all these subs, right?

Well according to some people it was “bumpin hard!” And after 4 hours I agree. In the end it was a super easy gig and only about a 12 hour day between driving, setup, show, tear down, and driving home. As of this blog I should be home in about 3-4 hours. Nice and easy day!

This is the view from my seat for 4 hours.

That's the stage to the right. It's a slight downgrade from the 40'X40' stage we had in years past. But I didn't have to setup the stage this time :)

A good view of downstage area. All 8 sub boxes containing dual 18" woofers.

Great DJ! And a fun personality. Enjoyed working with him.
