It's been a while since I've done gigs and usually it's a lot of work. Wake up super early to set up a stage and sound system, run monitor for several bands with 40+ inputs to the board and 12 hours later pack up and head home arriving back at home 20 hours later. Today was a little different though.

Stage was set up, and all we had was a DJ. No other bands. Only 2 inputs to the board! Once we set up in 1.5 hours we patched him in, set the levels and chill for a four hour event. I’m actually typing this blog while sitting stage right because I have nothing else to do. The only job I really have this show is make sure he doesn’t overload the subs. So the downside is I have to sit and listen to hiphop for 4 hours right behind the subs. It’s a lot like those cars that pull up next to you at the stop light with their bass cranked, only for 4 hours and probably 10 times louder. Approximately 12,000 watts powering sixteen 18″ subwoofers. It’s a DJ so we needed all these subs, right?

Well according to some people it was “bumpin hard!” And after 4 hours I agree. In the end it was a super easy gig and only about a 12 hour day between driving, setup, show, tear down, and driving home. As of this blog I should be home in about 3-4 hours. Nice and easy day!

Today I have been working on my camera slider to get ready to this weekend's 12 Hours of Santos mountain biking event. I love the look and feel of a good slider but didn't like the cost of most slider. They range anywhere between $500 and $1,500 for a nice slider for DSLR cameras. I don't have that kind of money just for a slider so I went searching around the internets and found a pretty nice and simple slider by Drylin.

So I ordered it off of Amazon for $170 and figured out how to mount it to my $80 tripod. First I had to find the right length bolt so it could go through the rail but not too high to hit the slider. That was pretty easy:

Then I had to find another bolt that fit the size of the tripod head threads and that wasn’t too long. Unfortunately there weren’t any short ones so I had to use 3 big washers to help compensate:

And then the last step was to just assemble all the pieces together and done!

Unfortunately my cheap tripod is not too good at handling the weight of the camera on the slider so when I slide from one side to the other it bends a good bit. It kind of gives an arch feel to the video, which I don’t want. So it might be time to upgrade tripods soon. But in the mean time, maybe my 2 old monopods might help stabilize the ends? Until then, it should do the job for this weekends mountain biking event. Can’t wait to get this thing out for a test run!

Lately I have been riding at the Santos trails in South Ocala and I love it! I’ve been riding out here for over 5 years now but I haven’t been about to ride the past year since being out of the country. But I am now back into after brushing off some rust off my 2009 Specialized Hardrock bike.

There’s talk between a few of us about doing some racing as well. I’ve always wanted to try races so it’s really cool to have others interested in it as well. In fact, this weekend Billy Aylward will be racing the 12 hours of Santos event. Billy has been riding 2 weeks now and is already racing! I would race but I decided this time around I am going to document the event via video. So you can catch me out at Santos with my gear doing my best to tell the story of this event. I might even camp out over night on Friday before the event. Should be a cool weekend!
