Happyland

I have seen a lot of bad living conditions while traveling to many different countries. Houses made out of mud in Africa, bamboo homes in Asia, and amongst all this is trash and no clean running water. But by far the worst I have ever seen lies in the Philippines near Manila. It is a dump for the city of Manila on the coast and the people here live amongst all the trash. They spend their lives going through all this trash to find things to recycle for money and reuse for themselves. The ground is covered with trash to the point of not being able to see the ground in some areas and some areas the trash is piled two stories high. Kids run around bare foot and some with no clothes at all. The conditions are far from sanitary and should no way be livable, but the people here live their lives just as normal and their attitude greatly reflects the name of this place, “Happyland”. It’s interesting to me how people can be so happy but be in the worst conditions possible.
